Workstation / Fujitsu presents for the first time its new GPU line-up at NVIDIA’s GTC Europe

Fujitsu presents for the first time its new GPU line-up at NVIDIA’s GTC Europe

What better place to launch and display new graphics and computing platforms than at a premier European event for graphics and computing, NVIDIA’s European GPU Technology Conference? Fujitsu has unveiled their new desktop workstations, the CELSIUS M770 & R970, and announced support for NVIDIA’s newest Tesla GPU accelerators based on its latest GPU architecture Volta in their PRIMERGY servers.

More than 3,000 customers traveled to Munich, Germany for the 2017 European edition of the NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference (GTC). Billed as the premier event for artificial intelligence, deep learning, autonomous vehicles, and virtual reality, the NVIDIA GTC is an essential conference for researchers, developers, startups and seasoned professionals.

A-to-Z computing with a GPU-powered server and workstation line-up

The Fujitsu line-up fits perfectly into the profile of the event and delivers technology for virtual reality and artificial intelligence as well as CAD, video effects, rendering, HPC and 3D design. Their expertise in computing and graphics technology is shared across product lines, too. A PRIMERGY server supporting the new high-end NVIDIA Tesla datacenter GPUs as well as CELSIUS workstations were on display.

Fujitsu delivers a complete line-up of high-performance workstations

CELSIUS M770 redesigned, dual GPU, single-processor workstation

The CELSIUS M770 was a highlight in Munich at the GTC Europe. It supports dual NVIDIA Quadro P6000 graphics, a 10-core Intel® Xeon® W-2155 processor and 256 GB of main memory. The design is a marvel of efficiency and serviceability with a practically cable-free design. Its performance is well-suited for computer-aided engineering, visualization, video editing, and virtual reality applications.

The German engineering team completely rethought the design for the CELSIUS M770. They used input from their customers and their own best ideas. The resulting system reaches new levels of simplicity.

Beginning from the outside, easy to hold grips are integrated into the chassis design. Color-marked touch-points guide access to the system.   On the inside, a three-channel cooling system is efficient and quiet.

Truly innovative design changes remove all the system cables except for connections to optical drives and graphics cards. Storage bays are cold-plug accessible via a front panel. Pulling and replacing hard drives is simple, fast, and tool-free. From the inside, the power supply is equally simple to remove and replace. This idea of pull & replace is implemented throughout the system. This design makes service and maintenance fast and efficient.

This complete redesign of Fujitsu’s high-end single-processor system sets a new benchmark for clean efficient workstation design.

CELSIUS R970 high-end graphics workstation

Fujitsu launched a new high-end graphics workstation at the NVIDIA GTC Europe. When fully loaded, this workstation is packed with three NVIDIA Quadro P6000 GPUs, 11,520 CUDA cores and 72 GB of graphics memory. It delivers 56 cores of CPU performance with dual Intel® Xeon® Platinum processor 8176 processors. The CELSIUS R970 can be configured with 1 TB of main memory as well. This combination of computing power lets customers put a super-computing graphics workstation under their desk.

Fujitsu CELSIUS J550/2 workstation

The company’s small form-factor workstation is only 10 liters in size yet supports the power of full-height graphics like an NVIDIA Quadro P2000

CELSIUS W570 & J550/2 mini-tower and small form-factor workstations

These recently-released desktop workstations are the new benchmarks for size/performance ratio on the desktop. The CELSIUS W570power+ model, with a 21 liter volume and support for the NVIDIA Quadro P4000 GPU, is the smallest VR-Ready workstation on the market today. For the CELSIUS J550/2, the Fujitsu engineers designed another unique, compact workstation that delivers a full-height, Quadro P2000 GPU in a 10 liter, small form-factor desktop workstation.

CELSIUS H970 & H770 mobile workstations

The 17-inch, VR-Ready CELSIUS H970 is a new addition to Fujitsu’s mobile workstation portfolio. With a Quadro P5000 GPU, an Intel® Xeon® E3- 1535M v6 processor, and 64 GB of main memory, this mobile workstation fulfills nearly every wish of mobile professionals. The 15-inch CELSIUS H770 is a powerful, sleek, and secure mobile workstation. This mobile workstation matches the NVIDIA Quadro M2200 with a 4K ultra-high resolution display. And it keeps company data safe thanks to Fujitsu’s unique PalmSecure biometric authentication technology.

CELSIUS C740 rack-mounted workstation

When you need desktop power all the time and everywhere, then a powerful remote workstation is the answer. Fujitsu’s CELSIUS C740 delivers that power in a unique 1U rack-mounted format that supports up to two NVIDIA Quadro P6000 GPUs or two NVIDIA TESLA M60 GPUs. The remote workstation supports a 1-to-1 and a 1-to-many remote workstation configuration. And it can also be used as a rendering or computing node in your data center cluster.

PRIMERGY M4 Generation GPU-computing servers

Fujitsu announced support for NVIDIA’s newest Volta GPU in its PRIMERGY RX2540 M4 dual-GPU, dual-processor, 2U server at the NVIDIA GTC in Munich.  When equipped with dual-Tesla V100 GPUs, two 28-core Intel processors, and 3 TB of main memory, this rack-mounted server is ready to tackle any complex artificial intelligence, deep-learning or high-performance computing tasks. For everyone in need for even more density, Fujitsu has the CX400 M4 with 2 dual-socket server nodes that can also incorporate a GPU each – delivering a total of 4 new generation processors plus 2 high-performance GPUs in a 2U format.

Virtual Reality for Design & Design Verification

Many Fujitsu workstations are VR-Ready. And Fujitsu showed how virtual reality can be used in product design. By placing the completely redesigned CELSIUS M770 into an immersive 3D, virtual reality environment, Fujitsu allowed visitors to the GTC Europe to see first-hand the way in which VR can be used to explore, test and verify product designs.

In the Fujitsu virtual reality demonstration, visitors at the GTC Europe could explore the new design of the CELSIUS M770 workstation. With the workstation modeled in 3D, visitors could examine, disassemble and reassemble the machine in a completely immersive environment. The demonstration shows how VR can be used for design verification, training and maintenance.

Fujitsu used their workstation data from PTC CREO. The data was transferred to Autodesk VRED where the team added materials and textures. Many of the components of a workstation are not modeled in 3D and these parts needed to be created for this demonstration.  Some parts of the workstation, such as the motherboard, were scanned in detail to provide the desired level of realism in the virtual model.
